A chewable softgel is not swallowed whole: the customer sets the shape and the color, and the shell formula has to be built for chewing. This clip follows a sample run of one custom chewable format, from the shell ribbon to the finished capsules.
A Tailor-Made shell formula
The shell is a Tailor-Made formula built on hydroxypropyl starch, with no animal gelatin. Tailor-Made is the AMYLOM grade for custom shell work — chewable softgels, gel candy, and other specialty formats — where the customer sets the color, the shape, and the fill volume, and the shell formula is adjusted to match.
Formed on the rotary die
The plant-based shell ribbon feeds over the rollers into the rotary die, where the custom capsule shape is formed and sealed. Off the die, the capsules drop to the take-off conveyor in the customer’s specified shape.
Tumble drying and sample capsules
From the line, the capsules go into a rotary drum for the first drying stage; tumbling keeps the still-soft starch shells from sticking while they surface-dry. The run closes with the sample capsules in hand — translucent, pale yellow — the batch the customer evaluates before the format moves toward production.
